ZAGREB, July 9 (Hina) - Croatian pop-singer Zlatan Stipisic Gibonni was named the first UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador from Croatia at a ceremony in Zagreb on Wednesday.

Philip O'Brien, UNICEF director for Central and East Europe, said
Gibonni's being named Goodwill Ambassador was a historical event
for Croatia as this was the first time since the country gained
independence that a famous person was given that title.
O'Brien presented Gibonni with a UNICEF charter of thanks.
Speaking about the organisation's new mandate in Croatia, UNICEF
representative for Croatia Ann - Lis Svensson stressed the
importance of cooperation with the business sector. She noted that
Croatia had made major progress since 1991.
