The family bill was endorsed by the ruling coalition.
Presenting the bill, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Davorko
Vidovic said the definition of mother as a woman who gave birth to a
child was changed at the suggestion of the Justice Ministry.
Responding to objections from opposition benches, the minister
said the changes did not undermine the existing definition of
mother but rather "open up possibilities for extremely rare
cases".
Opposition MPs announced they would boycott the vote on the bill in
line with their previous decision. They, however, participated in
the discussion on the issue, raising a series of objections to the
bill and criticising the redefinition of the notion of mother.
On Wednesday, parliament will vote on a score of bills, including
amendments to the Labour Act and other labour-related laws.
