Layon told reporters in Belgrade on Friday that the Serbian
government was trying to silence the ICG and that he could not
interpret its decision in any other way than as his being banished
from the country.
He claimed the forces behind the decision were those from the times
of Slobodan Milosevic's regime, which had created conditions
which, among other things, led to the assassination of Serbian
Premier Zoran Djindjic in March this year.
Layon said he had informed international organisations, the
Council of Europe, as well as the embassies of the United States and
Great Britain of the incident, and the latter have already
protested against the decision.
