BRODARAC SAYS HE HAS NO INFORMATION ABOUT INVESTIGATION

SISAK, July 1 (Hina) - The head of Sisak-Moslavina County, Djuro Brodarac, said on Tuesday that he had no information that he was under investigation by the Hague Tribunal for events that had taken place in Sisak during the war years of 1991 and 1992. Speaking at a news conference, Brodarac described as untrue the information that he was allegedly being investigated by the Hague Tribunal, saying that no one had called him for an interview. I haven't talked about this either with the Croatian police or with investigators from the Hague Tribunal, he said. "I maintain that no indictment will be issued against me either in Croatia or in The Hague, and if it is, it can only be politically motivated," Brodarac stated. He said that he could not be indicted for command responsibility because from 1991 to 1993, while he was chief of police in Sisak, the police had professionally and properly processed all reported case

He said that he could not be indicted for command responsibility because from 1991 to 1993, while he was chief of police in Sisak, the police had professionally and properly processed all reported cases of disappearance and killings regardless of the ethnic background of people in question. In response to the question as to why the police had not processed all cases of disappearance and killings of Serbs in the Sisak area during the war, Brodarac said that the police had carried out their work promptly, suggesting that questions relating to the reason why investigations into such cases have been delayed for 12 years should be put to the State Prosecutor and the Croatian judiciary.
