"We think we have done a lot and that our European prospects are
good, but when this many eminent Austrian and European figures from
politics, diplomacy, science, and journalism literally repeat that
at one place, then we are more than encouraged," Picula told the
press in Wachau, where he is attending the traditional European
Forum.
European Forum Wachau is one of the most reputable international
conferences dedicated to EU enlargement and institutional reforms.
The event is held annually in the organisation of Austria's foreign
ministry and the Lower Austria province government. Participants
are senior officials and ministers from Western Europe and EU
candidates. Croatia is attending for the first time.
"A week after the European Summit in Greece, Croatia has been given
the chance to get confirmation at yet another international event
that it is being counted on as a future member of the European
Union," said Picula.
"The possibility of our joining the EU by the end of the decade is
more than certain."
He is attending the two-day Wachau forum at the invitation of
Austrian Foreign Minister Benita Ferrero-Waldner. This year's
forum focuses on movement towards an enlarged EU and regional
prospects.
