BELGRADE, June 29 (Hina) - Serbia and Montenegrin Water Polo Alliance's opposition to the suggestion of the International Swimming Federation (LEN) that the Croatian water polo team be suspended for two years "is not a matter of courtesy". The alliance would have taken up such a stand if any other team was in question, the alliance's president, Aleksandar Sostar, said.
#L# "The Croatian Water Polo Alliance called and thanked us for the support, but I am convinced that they would have done the same for us. Of course, we denounce everything that happened before, during and after the match and I hope nothing similar will ever happen again. I have never in my life felt such a feeling of physical danger, but the players or the leadership of the Croatian water polo team did nothing to cause all that. I am certain this would not have happened if the finals were played in Croatia or here because the match would have been much better organised," Sostar told the Sunday issue of Belgrade's daily "Blic" in an interview under the heading "Croatians said 'Thank You'". Five days ago Serbia-Montenegro's Water Polo Alliance urged the leaders of the LEN not to punish the Croatian Water Polo Alliance over an incident caused by Croatian fans at a European championship match played in Slovenia's Kranj last Sunday.
