The signing of the petition started in the capital in April and
passed through all major towns. Dozens of thousands of signatures
were collected but signing was relaunched today after parliament
adopted a Libra conclusion and bound the government to forward into
parliamentary procedure by June 30 a draft set of measures aimed at
abolishing mandatory military service.
Libra president Jozo Rados told the press today the party would put
to parliament next week bills to abolish mandatory military service
or "possibly suspend this duty until further notice". The
government should take a stand on the matter by the end of the month,
he said.
