The conference, organised within the Process of Southeast European
Co-operation Process (SEECP), which is currently chaired by
Bosnia-Herzegovina, focused on the situation in the region in light
of the conclusions of the London conference on the fight against
organised crime and preparations for the upcoming summit of the
European Union in Salonika, which is expected to address the
problem of organised crime.
The Croatian delegation at the conference was headed by Assistant
Interior Minister Zarko Katic.
The declaration from the Sarajevo conference stresses the need to
adjust legislation in countries in the region to EU standards.
The document calls for the adoption of legislation regulating
witness protection programmes and the protection of data.
These laws are of exceptional importance for the continuation of
integration into the EU and the future co-operation between
countries in the region and the EUROPOL, the coordinator of the
Stability Pact for Southeast Europe, Erhard Busek, said at the
conference.
