ZAGREB, June 16 (Hina) - Croatian Prime Minister Ivica Racan said
Monday there was no reason to postpone the privatisation of 25% plus
one share of the national oil company, Ina. #L#
The government earlier announced Ina would be privatised by the end
of this month, but some media have speculated in the past several
days that the privatisation will be postponed until after the
elections.
"There is no reason (for postponement). Life will not stop for five
or six months because of the elections," Racan told Croatian
Radio.
He said the privatisation issue was clear. "We shall soon see which
is the best offer for 25% plus one share of Ina. If we are satisfied
with the best offer, we shall make a public, transparent decision,"
the PM said.
He could not say whether the decision would be made by the end of
June, but said a commission on Ina's privatisation, which he
chairs, would convene on Wednesday.
Racan also announced the privatisation of 25% plus one, golden,
share of the Croatia Insurance company. He stressed the state would
keep its majority share in the company.
Asked about the zoning and environment protection ministry's
initiative of pulling down illegitimately constructed buildings in
tourist resorts, the prime minister said he was not happy with the
fact buildings were being torn down in most popular tourist
locations.
