"On June 12 it will be four years since Kosovo has become a free
area. I can say today that during those four years, Kosovo has
achieved significant progress in all areas. The overall security
situation and political stability have improved considerably,
especially with regards to the functioning of democratic
institutions. These results have been achieved together with the
UNMIK, OSCE, KFOR and with the all-round help of the United States,
the European Union and other countries," Rugova said in his
message.
Objectives have come to pass on the economic front, in
privatisation, the creation of new jobs and the integration of
ethnic minorities into Kosovo's society, he stressed.
Rugova again urged the international community to formally
recognise Kosovo's independence and help constitute a democratic
and tolerant Kosovo integrated into the European Union and NATO.
