At the meeting, which was also attended by Greek Foreign Minister
Georgios Papandreou, the declaration was adopted, in which
presidents Boris Trajkovski, Stjepan Mesic, Svetozar Marovic,
Borislav Paravec and Alfred Moisiu, respectively, stress that they
expect of the European Union to offer the kind of help it is giving
to other countries from the next round of EU's enlargement.
This stance towards Western Balkan countries has so far been
supported by Greece, Italy and Austria, which announced they would
try to win over other European countries so this approach could
receive a concrete shape at the EU Salonika summit.
Papandreou said the region was offered a prospect to enter the EU
and voiced hope that the summit in Salonika would emit positive
signals from both sides.
The heads of state sent an appeal from Ohrid to Europe regarding the
liberalisation of the visa regime, Macedonian Radio reported.
