Tomorrow's session will be addressed by Sabor President Zlatko
Tomcic and Vice-President Mato Arlovic. The session will be
attended by the most senior state officials, politicians, public
figures and religious dignitaries.
Vlatko Pavletic, Baltazar Jalsovec and the GONG non-government
organisation will be awarded the "Golden Coat-of-Arms", which
consists of a plaque, medal and a financial award of 100,000 kuna.
The decision to award Pavletic and Jalsovec has provoked some
negative reactions in the public regarding the justification for
the award and the amount of money which by far exceeds all other
awards in the country.
Croatian Sabor Day is being marked for the second year now as a day
of remembrance, not as an official public holiday, which was the
case in the past decade.
The incumbent authorities changed the calendar of public holidays
and decided that May 30, once celebrated as Statehood Day, would be
celebrated as Sabor Day, while Statehood Day was shifted to June
25.
