"Croatia's path to Brussels also goes through Sarajevo, so it is in
Croatia's interest to support Bosnia's joining NATO and the EU,"
the chairman of the Croatian parliamentary foreign affairs
committee, Zdravko Tomac, said after talks with his Bosnian
counterpart Martin Raguz.
Raguz said he was glad to hear that after it joined the EU Croatia
would not build a wall towards Bosnia, but deepen cooperation with
the country in all fields.
The two delegations also discussed the return of refugees, the
position of the Croat people in Bosnia and the Bosniak (Muslim)
minority in Croatia, as well as an agreement on the Ploce port.
The talks also focused on the U.S. request on the non-extradition of
Americans to the International Criminal Court (ICC). Bosnia has
signed the agreement with the U.S. while Croatia is expected to take
a stand on the matter by July 1.
Raguz said that a large number of Bosnian parliamentary parties
advocated the ratification of the agreement and expressed hope the
EU would not take restrictive measures against Bosnia.
Tomac said that, as a citizen, he opposed the U.S. request, but as a
politician he must take national interests into account.
He added Croatia would make moves which would not provoke conflicts
neither with the U.S. nor the EU, of whom he asked not to expose
Croatia to pressure from both sides.
