ZAGREB, May 27 (Hina) - The Croatian government's commission in
charge of the construction of the Zagreb-Split highway decided at a
session on Tuesday that the road would be built as a highway from
Sestanovac to Osojnik (Dubrovnik), from where it would run as a fast
road towards the border crossing of Debeli Brijeg.
The session was presided by the commission's chairman, Prime
Minister Ivica Racan. #L#
The average price of one kilometre of the highway is US$5.41 million
for the section running from Dugopolje to Ploce, while the price of
construction works for the section from Dubrovnik to Debeli Brijeg
would be as much as US$10.3 million per kilometre due to the
difficult terrain, Croatian Roads manager Vladimir Bizjak said.
The construction of the Bosiljevo-Split section will cost an
estimated 12.297 billion kuna or 1.6 billion euros, it was said at
the session.
PM Racan said he would soon head a government delegation on a visit
to Sarajevo, where they would try to reach agreement with Bosnian
authorities on relevant issues. Those issues include the port of
Ploce, the corridor through Neum, the construction of the 5c
corridor linking Croatia and Bosnia with Central Europe via Hungary
and connecting to the future Adriatic-Ionian highway at a hub at
Ploce.
The commission wants agreement to be reached on unobstructed
passage of people and goods, however, if the talks fail, it will
consider other variants of the highway route, Racan said.
He dismissed media claims that the construction of the highway
would cost more than planned, adding that the construction of the
Bosiljevo-Split section would cost 1.6 billion euros as planned.
Around 150 kilometres of new highways should be opened for traffic
in the country this year, it was said at the session.
