SALZBURG, May 23 (Hina) - Croatia's President Stjepan Mesic on Friday morning met his Ukrainian and Polish counterparts, Leonid Kuchma and Alexander Kwasniewski, in Salzburg where they took part in the two-day Central European
summit.

Mesic and Kuchma talked about a project of the DruzbaAdria oil pip-
line, a major part of which is passing through Ukraine. The two
presidents in particular discussed the protection of environment.
The Ukrainian side proposed the conclusion of an overall agreement
on the protection of the Adriatic and Black seas, Mesic told
reporters.
Mesic and Polish President Kwasniewski, whose country is actively
engaged in the post-war Iraq, talked about the reconstruction and
stabilisation of that state. One of topics of the Mesic-Kwasniewski
talks was a possibility of Croatian companies' participation in
businesses in Iraq.
The Croatian head of state, who met his counterparts from the Czech
Republic, Italy, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia-Montenegro,
Slovakia, Albania, Ukraine and Poland, described his bilateral
meetings in Salzburg as very useful.
Two Austrian and one German dailies released interviews with Mesic
in their issues of Friday.
According to Salzburger Nachrichten, Mesic spoke about Croatia's
bids to enter the European Union. The Vienna-based Kurier quoted
him as saying that his country enjoyed real prospects of catching up
with Romania and Bulgaria that were planning to join the EU in 2007.
In his interview with Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Mesic spoke
abut the issue of non-extradition of Americans to the International
Criminal Court (ICC).
