Croatia and Romania are candidates for the organisation of the next
summit, and the final decision on the host will be made on Friday by
all 17 heads of state taking part in the two-day summit in
Salzburg.
At the first working session of the CE summit the Croatian president
called on all participating countries to help in the process of
European integration. He also called on European companies to come
to Croatia and invest not only in tourism and banks but in the
manufacturing industry as well.
Mesic said the European policy could not be built on opposition to
anybody but on cooperation with partners, one of the most important
ones being the United States.
Earlier today Mesic held bilateral talks with his Czech and Italian
counterparts and a trilateral meeting with top officials from
Bosnia-Herzegovina and Serbia-Montenegro. In the afternoon, he met
Slovak and Albanian Presidents, Rudolf Schuster and Alfred Moisiu
respectively.
