"The most important thing is that we have interested Slovenes in
seeking solutions, to avoid each side imbedded in their stances,"
Mesic told reporters.
"We said that not solving the Ljubljanska Bank issue would
certainly create new misunderstandings, so a discussion should be
opened and experts should suggest solutions which would satisfy the
bank's clients," he said.
Vice-Premier Slavko Linic said at yesterday's government session
that during talks which Mesic and a Croatian delegation held in
Ljubljana, "we have not come any closer to solving the problem of
payment of debts to Ljubljanska Bank clients".
Linic, who also took part in the talks, said that Slovene Prime
Minister Anton Rop had pledged to reach an agreement with Croatia's
Ivica Racan about starting negotiations on the issue.
Croatia has suggested that the citizens' savings issue be solved
first, while Slovenia offered to clear Croatian companies' debts to
the bank, Linic said.
