ZAGREB, May 14 (Hina) - The Croatian Social Liberal Party's (HSLS)
bench has requested setting up by the end of the parliament's
mandate a commission to investigate possible abuse of office and
unlawful activities of parliamentary deputies, party vice-
president Djurdja Adlesic said. #L#
The HSLS will send into parliamentary procedure a proposal to this
effect once it collects the required number of signatures of MPs in
favour of the proposal, Adlesic told reporters in the parliament
building.
The Croatian Peasant Party, Libra, Primorje-Gorski Kotar Alliance
and the Croatian People's Party have already supported the
proposal, which means it could be sent into procedure soon, Adlesic
said.
"The commission should be formed by the end of this mandate so that
citizens could know if they trust their deputies. Their trust is
growing more and more frail, we (deputies) are all considered
equally guilty and equally lazy and that must change," Adlesic
said.
The party proposed that the commission be chaired by the youngest
opposition MP who would call sessions at the proposal of any MP who
suggests launching an investigation into any parliamentary
deputy.
The number of members of the commission would depend on the number
of parliamentary parties. Its task would be to receive
investigation requests and voice its stand on whether a deputy's
conduct is ethical. Its final decision should be made known within
15 days from receipt of the request.
The HSLS expects a law preventing the conflict of interest will be
adopted soon and will insist that the envisaged fines of several
thousand kuna be increased, Adlesic said.
