After the talks, the Croatian official told reporters that the
implementation of the Zagreb-Macelj road project should start in
January 2004, after six years of negotiations.
According to Cacic, Croatia has done its part of the job in this
project, and 30 kilometres remain to be built from Krapina to
Macelj.
The Bavarian minister Wiesheu said the talks had revolved around
possibilities for the continuation of the construction of the
Macelj highway from the Slovenian side.
He added that a few years ago in Brussels he had made this suggestion
and proposed that the continuation of the said route should be an
item in negotiations on Slovenia's entry to the European Union.
According to him, it is a corridor interesting for Austria,
Slovenia, Croatia and Bavaria and must be completed in order to be
efficient.
The Bavarian official said he would ask a competent EU group for the
pan-European networks to exert pressure on Ljubljana on this
matter.
The Croatian and Bavarian ministers spoke also about the Zagreb
airport and its expansion.
"The airport in Munich is interested in constructing the airport in
Zagreb," Wiesheu said.
