ZAGREB, May 6 (Hina) - Representatives from the Croatian Interior Ministry on Tuesday handed over a report on the work of the police in 2002 and the first quarter of this year, to the Sabor committee for interior affairs and national
security. According to the report, it is obvious that the security in the country is stable, the committee chairman Ante Markov told reporters at a press conference.
ZAGREB, May 6 (Hina) - Representatives from the Croatian Interior
Ministry on Tuesday handed over a report on the work of the police in
2002 and the first quarter of this year, to the Sabor committee for
interior affairs and national security. According to the report, it
is obvious that the security in the country is stable, the committee
chairman Ante Markov told reporters at a press conference. #L#
The committee will assist to improve the work of the police with the
adoption of new legislation and other initiatives that will
increase a scope of possibilities for police activities, Markov
said and explained that he was referring to a law on the protection
of witnesses, a law on confidentiality and amendments to the Penal
Code.
Members of the committee were notified a Community Police project,
which has recently been launched and which is giving good results.
Interior Minister Sime Lucin said Croatia, as a key factor in the
region and a tourist country, must constantly work on raising its
security level.
The preventative role of the so-called contact police could prevent
the growing number of assaults and robberies which is the only crime
that is constantly growing, he said.
He added that as regards all other serious crimes, e.g. murders, the
police have recorded an improving trend.
