According to Pancic, the national programme was realised for the
first time last year, when around 2,000 veterans were employed.
Twenty million kuna were spent for this purpose.
"The overall number of unemployed veterans thus decreased to
32,000, and we are planning to employ another 2,000 people this year
to lessen the number of unemployed to under 30,000," Pancic said.
He stressed that one of the biggest problems in employing veterans
was their lack of knowledge about the employment programmes and
inadequate professional qualification.
As many as 80% of jobless veterans do not have high school diplomas,
so their competitiveness on the labour market is significantly
diminished, Pancic said. He announced that all interested
unemployed veterans would be sent to additional education or
retraining.
