Tomcic announced that next month HSS would animate available public
potential to create a positive atmosphere and development
circumstances in Croatian society.
The HSS campaign platform concentrates on economic development and
a high rate of development growth -- up to 10 per cent -- the removal
of barriers to development, the fight against grey economy, crime
and corruption, emphasis on education, and responsible demographic
and social policies.
Amongst the five fundamental election points are Croatia's access
to the EU and NATO.
HSS' president reiterated that the ruling coalition had agreed to
hold the parliamentary election in mid-autumn and that any possible
change to the date would need to be agreed to by each of the parties
in the coalition.
HSS was surprised with the nervousness prevalent on the political
scene, and on behalf of his party Tomcic said that it was
unacceptable to be exclusively preoccupied with the elections
while neglecting the day-to-day business of the executive and
judicial authorities. HSS stresses that it will not be part of this
sort of behaviour.
Tomcic estimated that the current atmosphere is ruled by how to get
to power and that Croatia is faced with the threat of being divided
between a left and a right bloc.
He repeated that HSS remained steadfast in its decision to run in
the elections on its own and that it will not enter into
negotiations about a pre-election coalition.
