THE HAGUE/ZAGREB, April 17 (Hina) - The Hague-based international war crimes tribunal (ICTY) has decided to initiate proceedings against Milka Maglov, a former defence attorney of one indictee. #L# Maglov defended Radoslav Brdjanin, indicted for genocide and war crimes in Bosnia committed between September 2001 and April 2002. Her power of attorney was suspended on April 9, 2002, after a protected witness for the prosecution complained of Maglov threatening him. Amicus curiae Dejan Ukropina from Novi Sad was in charge of inquiries in the case. At a hearing on July 10, the court debated his findings about the intimidation of witnesses and about how Maglov had revealed to a member of the public the identity of the protected witness, as well as his role in the trial, thus violating the tribunal's provision on protective measures. The trial chamber established the findings to represent sufficient grounds for initiating proceedings against Maglov for contempt of court. (hina) lml
