In an Easter message sent on Tuesday from Bozanic's public
relations office, the archbishop notes that women and mothers
working in shops are especially left to the mercy of employers
without the right to Sunday rest and being with their families on
that day of the week.
According to Bozanic, Sunday is sacred to Christians and is in the
very heart of the Christian life.
He believes that many initiatives should be connected and
recognised and one should advocate at all levels "Sunday culture"
which maintains the human dignity of Croatian citizens.
"The state is obliged to provide a fair law through its institutions
for this area. Issues of such importance should not be left to local
authorities or agreements between social parties. (The state) is
particularly obliged to see to it to prevent the abuse of those who
earn and augment their fortunes by exploiting those who cannot
fight back because they are dependent on the wages they give them,"
the archbishop said in his message.
Bozanic wished all the best to Croatian citizens on the occasion of
the biggest Catholic holiday, Easter.
