ZAGREB, April 11 (Hina) - Croatian Tourism Minister Pave Zupan Ruskovic on Friday informed members of the parliament's tourism committee that bookings for Croatian resorts on foreign markets had begun to improve in recent weeks following a holdback caused by the war in Iraq. #L# Zupan Ruskovic presented the Tourist Satellite Balance, i.e. an estimate of the effects of tourism on Croatia's economy, which forecasts that in 2003 Croatia could earn around US$7.9 billion from tourism. The balance is drawn up in 161 countries and now it enables Croatia to compare its results in tourism with those of other countries. According to the document, last year Croatia realised around US$7 billion from tourism and this year the country is expected to earn US$7.9 billion. That would mean an increase in the share of tourism in Croatia's GDP to 22%, Zupan Ruskovic said. The Tourist Satellite Balance for Croatia was put together by the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) in co-operation with the State Bureau of Statistics, the Croatian National Bank, and Croatia's Tourism Ministry.
