SABOR HEAD TAKES PART IN PARLIAMENTARY DEBATE ON SUNCANI HVAR

ZAGREB, April 9 (Hina) - Should the government have failed to annul its decision on the sale of the Suncani Hvar hotel to Slovenia's Terme Catez company, consequences would have been far-reaching, said the Sabor President and the Croatian Peasant Party (HSS) leader, Zlatko Tomcic, during a parliamentary debate on the issue on Wednesday.
#L# Tomcic, who seldom takes the stand for MPs since he is the Sabor Speaker, spoke about the privatisation of the Hvar-based hotel on behalf of the HSS bench. He said it was necessary to cancel the decision on selling Suncani Hvar to Terme Catez, as, according to him, there was data that the offer of another bidder, Slovenia's Kompas company, was more favourable. The president of the HSS, the party which played a key role in the government's annulment of the decision on the sale, reiterated that no criteria had been defined for the assessment of offers and offers of all bidders had not been compared. In addition, talks were held only with one bidder, instead of with all of them, which is contrary to business customs, Tomcic said. Talks were held only with Terme Catez in a panicky manner due to lack of time, after the scandal already broke out in the public, he added. Vice Premier Slavko Linic said the government had abandoned plans to sell Suncani Hvar because of some doubts in the process and certain irregularities, but he did not specify them. Linic rejected accusations that the government had failed to consult professional staff in making the decision on the matter, and said the Ivica Racan Cabinet consulted both Croatian and foreign consultants.
