Speaking to reporters about the meeting, Racan said the coalition
partners discussed what they had to do before the end of their
mandate, keeping in mind that the elections could be held in mid-
autumn.
The premier stressed the importance of reaching agreement on what
should be accomplished to join the EU.
"Croatia's entry into the EU is a strategic task for this or any
other government," Racan said, adding that the task had to be
performed fully regardless of the fact that the election campaign
had informally begun.
Racan also said that about 50 legislative projects needed to be
completed before the year's end, which was a pre-condition for
Croatia to be able to expect a positive response to its application
for EU membership early next year.
Some of those projects are already in parliamentary procedure while
some are being discussed by the government.
Premier Racan would not comment on any details regarding the recent
theft of four valuable paintings from the government building or
the possible culprit.
