Yesterday, MPs voted on amendments to the law on the election of
Croatian MPs, after which Croatian President Stjepan Mesic
immediately proclaimed the law.
The National Gazette immediately printed its 53rd issue, dated
April 2, in which the amendments to the electoral law are published
and which immediately became effective.
The amended law is already available on the Internet.
Such a pace in publishing the amended electoral law was necessary so
that everything could be completed within the constitutional
deadline.
The Constitutional law for the implementation of the Constitution
stipulates that the new electoral law be passed one year before
regular parliamentary elections at the latest.
The final deadline for regular parliamentary election is April 2,
2004.
