BELGRADE, March 31 (Hina) - The parliament of Serbia and Montenegro on Monday adopted a law on ratifying the statute of the Council of Europe, ahead of the announced admission of this new state union into the pan-European organisation
as a full member.

The law was supported by 74 deputies from Serbia and 29 from
Montenegro, while another six MPs from Serbia were against it.
Foreign Minister Goran Svilanovic told reporters that membership
in the Council of Europe would be the first step of Serbia and
Montenegro on the road towards the European Union.
