ZAGREB, March 28 (Hina) - The Rijeka Municipal State Prosecution on Friday requested that police interview Sinj mayor Mato Jukic to establish if he committed the criminal act of pressure on a court official with the statement he made after a verdict was reached in the trial of the so-called Gospic Group, the interior ministry reported.
#L# Interior Ministry spokeswoman Zinka Bardic told Hina the purpose of the interview was to establish if there were elements for initiating criminal proceedings against Jukic. After the non-final verdict of guilty to the Gospic Group was passed, Jukic said the verdict was shameful, that the winners in a war could not be tried and that it was unheard of that generals and soldiers who had liberated their country had to be imprisoned. Bardic reiterated that the police, in cooperation with the state prosecution, were investigating whether criminal acts had been committed during yesterday's protests and blockade of roads organised by the HVIDR disabled war veterans' association. According to the Penal Code, a person who, during trial and before the final verdict is passed, says in the media, at a public gathering or in front of a group of people, how a court official in the trial should act or which decisions he should make, is committing a criminal act. This kind of act envisages a fine of up to 150 daily wages or up to six months in prison. (hina) lml sb
