TRADE UNION: MONTHLY COSTS OF LIVING RISE BY 0.05 PERCENT IN CROATIA

ZAGREB, March 28 (Hina) - The average living costs for a four-member Croatian family this March were by 0.05 percent up from the same month last year, and totalled 5,221 kuna (approximately 680 euros), according to the Federation of the Independent Trade Unions of Croatia (SSSH).
ZAGREB, March 28 (Hina) - The average living costs for a four-member Croatian family this March were by 0.05 percent up from the same month last year, and totalled 5,221 kuna (approximately 680 euros), according to the Federation of the Independent Trade Unions of Croatia (SSSH). #L# During one year's time, costs for food dropped by 3.11 percent and for clothing by 16.3 percent, while the costs of transport were by 13.8 percent higher this March as against March 2002. SSSH warns that according to figures released by the Central Bureau of Statistics, the average salary in Croatia came to 3,839 kuna (EUR500) last December, which could cover only 73.5 percent of the basic costs of living. The Croatian family still must ensure the highest amount for food, i.e. 1,775 kuna monthly, and the expenditure for housing is 1,566 kuna. The costs for education and culture are 626 kuna, the family's budgetary item for clothing is 522 kuna, transport costs 469 kuna and hygienic goods 261 kuna, according to calculations made by SSSH. The highest costs of living are in Sibenik-Knin County with 5,750 kuna, and the lowest in Zagreb County where the four-member family needs 4,832 kuna monthly to make ends meet.
