Attending the conference are government representatives from
Croatia, Slovenia, Macedonia, Albania and Kosovo.
The head of the Institute, Blerim Reka, held an introductory
speech, pointing to the fact that Kosovo's political status, unlike
that of other countries participating in the conference, was not
defined. However, he added, even without a defined status Kosovo
had embarked on the path of adjusting its legislation to EU
standards.
Tamara Obradovic, Croatia's Assistant European Integration
Minister in charge of legislative adjustment, spoke about the
organisational aspect of the process of Croatia's European
integration and an association programme adopted by parliament.
The adoption of 83 legislative acts from the national programme of
association with the EU for 2003 will enable Croatia to take care of
all priorities from the Stabilisation and Association Agreement by
the end of this year, she said.
The head of the German Office in Pristina, Peter Rendorf, said that
the activities of the international community in Kosovo should lead
to European integration, as well as that the adjustment of
legislation was particularly important for Kosovo.
Slovene government representative Miro Prek spoke about his
country's experience in adjusting its legislation with the EU.
The conference resumes today with speeches by Macedonian and
Albanian government officials.
