SPLIT, March 4 (Hina) - Croatian Labour and Social Security
Minister and a member of the Presidency of the Social Democratic
Party Davorko Vidovic on Tuesday rejected claims that this
government was not sensitive to social issues. #L#
"It is absolutely not true that this Social Democratic government
is socially insensitive," Vidovic told a press conference in the
party's Split headquarters.
He assessed that they who destroyed the country for ten years, are
now sowing the seeds of pessimism.
It is a fact that compared to other transition countries, Croatia is
rating very well and that according to most parameters it stands in
third or fourth place, Vidovic claimed. He said that during the rule
of the new government, 26 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product
annually goes to social allowances.
Speaking about the Labour Law, Minister Vidovic claimed that since
the first day of its term of office, this government was open to
dialogue with social partners. Reforms in labour, along with
reforms in ownership status, are the most important reforms to be
implemented in transition countries, he said.
He added that this government stood behind workers. Redundancy
payments now appear to be a paper tiger and now the Labour Law will
mean that the government will guarantee redundancy payments
through a fund for workers' claims which will be set up, he said.
