ZAGREB, Feb 28 (Hina) - Presenting a bill on changes to the Labour Act in parliament on Friday, Croatian Labour and Welfare Minister Davorko Vidovic said that reforms could not be postponed and that job safety had to be replaced by a
more dynamic labour market.

He said that workers' rights in Croatia were several times better
than the average in most European countries.
"Period of notice is longer and severance pay is higher than in most
transition countries and are among the most favourable in Europe,"
Vidovic said, adding that workers' rights "will not go below the
European average, but neither will they exceed it, as they are
higher than in other transition countries".
The proposed restrictions of workers' rights will be compensated by
amending other labour legislation, the law on pension and health
insurance, the law on the workers' claims fund, and penal and
bankruptcy laws, the minister said.
Vidovic added that the government would continue taking part in the
social dialogue.
The session resumed with a debate of party whips on the bill.
