ratified an agreement on the Krsko nuclear power plant by majority
vote. #L#
After a debate which lasted several hours and the adoption of some
amendments pertaining to the plant's dismantling and waste
management, 41 deputies voted in support of the ratification, while
21 opposed it.
Environment and Zoning Minister Janez Kopac said after the vote
that the ratification of the agreement removed the threat of
Croatia, which is a co-owner of the plant, filing a request for pre-
arbitration procedure.
"Had we not ratified the agreement, an arbitration process would
have started, and it is lengthy, expensive and its outcome is
uncertain. I wouldn't fear this as much as I fear a still
outstanding suit at Zagreb's (commercial) court for electricity
that has not been delivered since 1998. The agreement now regulates
all this", Kopac told Slovenia's POP-TV television.
