Despite allegations that the act had been an attempt on Djindjic's
life and the fact that Milenkovic had a thick criminal record,
police only charged him with forging a document and vehicle theft. A
Belgrade district judge ordered him eight days in detention to
avoid him fleeing the country.
The Belgrade radio says the reason for Milenkovic's release,
according to the court, is that he is a salesman and a longer
detention would make it impossible for him to provide for his
family.
