ZAGREB, Feb 24 (Hina) - Croatian Labour and Welfare Minister Davorko Vidovic and his Ukrainian counterpart Mikhayl Papiyev discussed Croatia's experience in reforming the pension system in Zagreb on Monday. #L# Attending the meeting at the Ukrainian minister's side was a delegation of government and parliament officials, employers and unions. Vidovic spoke about the results of the pension reform in Croatia and the importance of media coverage for its success. "Following initial doubts in 2000 and 2001, the pension reform started yielding good results and proved that other reforms can be implemented without major problems as well," Vidovic said. Papiyev said the pension reform in Ukraine could start in 2004 according to a similar model, if the parliament adopted the necessary legislation by that time. The pensioner-worker ratio in Ukraine is 1:2 at the moment, but given the unfavourable demographic structure, it is feared that it could change to 1:1 by the year 2050, Papiyev said. (hina) rml
