Participants in Saturday's event agreed that the dignity and
valuation of doctors' profession was at risk of being degraded, and
in this context the HLS mustered support for its efforts aimed at
improving the working conditions and the status of doctors.
The participants in the 111th annual assembly said they were
dissatisfied with the activities of the incumbent government,
accusing it of failing to appreciate sufficiently the medical
profession.
Commenting on the strike of doctors, the Medical Association's
head, Dubravko Orlic, said the time would show who had not wanted to
listen to opinions of doctors and dentists.
The HLS leader, Ivica Babic, reiterated that the union was
preparing legal steps to challenge the Ivica Racan Cabinet's order
under which doctors had to go back to work after being on strike for
four weeks. He added that doctors stuck to their demands for a rise
in their salaries and for signing a collective agreement for this
profession.
Government officials, representatives of the health ministry and
Zagreb authorities were present at Saturday's assembly as well, and
held speeches on that occasion.
