Babic said the union would hold a news conference tomorrow to
present its stand on negotiations that had been held so far and on
the results of the strike, which has entered its 27th day.
Until the strikers' committee adopts further decisions,
recommendations on a reduced scope of medical services in hospitals
will remain in force and only emergencies will be admitted, Babic
said.
This decision also refers to tomorrow's World Day of the Sick as no
one but the strikers' committee has the right to change the scope of
medical services in hospitals, Babic said.
Speaking on occasion of World Day of the Sick, Health Minister Andro
Vlahusic has called on doctors to act sensibly and allow citizens to
fully exercise their right to medical care.
Presenting a bill on patients' rights at today's news conference,
Vlahusic said that Prime Minister Ivica Racan had made it clear what
the government was able to offer doctors and that there would be no
new offers.
Last week the government increased the doctors' wage budget by 10%,
raising their salaries through special bonuses from five to 20%.
Last Friday Racan called on the doctors' union to discontinue the
strike or the government would take measures to end it.
