Democratic Centre (DC) have criticised the government for putting
its signature on the statement by the Vilnius Group and believe that
the parliament should discuss the Iraqi crisis. #L#
Avoiding a parliamentary debate on this exceptionally important
issue and, at the same time, signing the Vilnius Group statement
which may negatively affect Croatia, is completely unacceptable
for the HSP, said the party president, Anto Djapic, at Wednesday's
news conference.
The HSP almost completely agrees with and accepts Prime Minister
Ivica Racan's current stances regarding the Iraqi crisis, but
believes that Croatia's signing the Vilnius Group statement, thus
expressing its unequivocal support to any American model of solving
the Iraqi crisis, is disputable, said Djapic.
This signature is a notorious mistake by the foreign ministry,
which has damaged Croatia's position in relation to the EU, he
said.
Djapic added that a parliamentary discussion on the Iraq crisis
should not be postponed.
The DC believes that before the statement had been signed, a
consensus should have been reached in parliament regarding
Croatia's stance towards Iraq, DC leader Mate Granic said.
International order and decisions of the U.N. Security Council
should be respected, and unity between the European Union and
America should be achieved within that framework, DC believes.
