Neven Mimica on Tuesday presented in Ljubljana a Croatian
government plan for submitting an application for full membership
of the European Union. #L#
According to the optimistic vision and scenario on which Croatia
counts, negotiations between Zagreb and the EU on full membership
could start in late 2004. Croatia could be prepared to integrate
into the EU by the end of 2006, Mimica told a large number of foreign
diplomats accredited in Ljubljana, as well as local and foreign
journalists, who attended the presentation in "Centar Europe".
The minister stressed that in Croatia there was great optimism in
the country's ability to catch up with other aspirants covered by
the process of the second round of EU's expansion, such as Bulgaria
and Rumania.
