The strike will not be staged to seek higher pays but solely because
the collective agreement does not contain provisions on job
evaluation, which gives the employer the chance to arbitrarily set
salaries, Miljenko Prugovecki, the president of the union -- Tehnos
-- told reporters on Tuesday.
Another reason for the strike is the HEP management's refusal to
negotiate on salaries for work in difficult and hazardous
conditions, he added.
If the HEP management fails to start negotiations with Tehnos by
March 4, the strike will begin at 6 a.m. and last until demands have
been met.
Tehnos leaders said they enjoyed the support of 96 percent of its
members and that the strike would be successful even though Tehnos
gathers only 1,700 of about 15,000 HEP employees.
The most numerous union with the company, the 9,250-member Croatian
Electro-Economic Union, does not endorse the strike.
President Dubravko Corak told Hina the calculation of salaries in
the new and the old collective agreement was identical, and that the
evaluation point used for base pay had gone up nine percent.
