Tomcic and the Iranian guests agreed that political and
parliamentary relations between Zagreb and Tehran were very good.
According to the statement, groups of Iranian-Croatian friendship
have already been set up in the two countries' parliaments.
The interlocutors, however, added that trade and business
relations were far below the real potentials, and agreed that the
parliamentary diplomacy could help promote this aspect of
bilateral cooperation.
Tomcic and Iranian MPs considered the situation in the Iranian
neighbourhood as well. Mirdamadi said his country supported bids of
the international community to disarm Iraq, and Tehran was in
favour of a peaceful solution sought through mechanisms which the
United Nations could offer.
Tomcic said Zagreb also urged the resolution of the crisis within
the system of the UN and supported the discontinuation of the
manufacturing of weapons of mass destruction.
