the strike. The union appealed for "a little more patience". #L#
The strike is not directed against patients, read the statement
issued ahead of World Day of the Sick -- February 11.
The health system has been imploding for years, directly reflecting
on patients' health, while minimal funding precludes quality
medical care, the union said, stressing the goal of the strike was
to protect the right to adequate health care.
The union says it cannot assume responsibility for the lives and
health of people when problems are systematically underplayed and
the health reform is not transparent and adequately prepared.
To protect patients' rights, doctors seek 206 working hours a month
and 30 hours overtime. Anything else is forced labour which
seriously endangers patients' lives and health because of doctors'
exhaustion, the statement said.
