numerous current issues in an interview for Croatian Television on
Sunday. #L#
Commenting on the sale of the Suncani Hvar hotel chain, Mesic said
that an international bid for tenders was announced and that the
only issue which should be discussed now was whether legal
regulations were respected.
Mesic said that the entrance of foreign capital in Croatia was "a
good deal", should the process ensure an increase in production and
employment and expand the market. But certain control mechanism
must exist, and be included in the sales contract, which will
guarantee that profit from the sold companies would not be taken out
of Croatia, Mesic said.
Asked about his opinion when would the Bobetko case end and General
Ante Gotovina's whereabouts, Mesic said it was difficult to say
where Gotovina was, but in his opinion Gotovina would do a big
favour "to himself, his family, but also to Croatia" if he answered
the questions of the Hague-based war crimes tribunal. Commenting on
the General Bobetko case, Mesic said he did not know what the
diagnosis of the ICTY doctor's team was, but that according to
Croatian doctors Bobetko was not capable of answering questions
before the Hague tribunal.
Commenting on claims on a poor situation in the Armed Forces and a
silent strike of military pilots in Zadar, Mesic said there can
neither be strike nor politics in the army.
Asked why generals who led the Croatian Army in the Homeland War,
such as retired General Ante Gotovina and Admiral Davorin Domazet
were not on leading position in the army, Mesic said that if "a
soldier crosses a certain line he is no longer a soldier". "Those
who wanted to be in politics are in politics now, but because of that
they are no longer in the army," Mesic said.
