signed more than a year ago, and issues related to nuclear waste

Neighbouring municipalities oppose the ratification of the
agreement as they believe that the disposal of nuclear waste has not
been regulated adequately and have threatened to urge a referendum
on the issue if the agreement is ratified.
The Croatian power supplier HEP this week sent the Slovene
government a pre-arbitration request, which has made the issue of
Krsko topical again in Slovenia. It is estimated that the price the
HEP demands for its share in the plant as part of the pre-
arbitration process is too high.
The HEP believes that its offer, which Slovene minister Kopac has
not yet responded to, is "fair compensation" for the losses it has
incurred since the time it no longer had access to the power
generated in the plant.
