"It was extremely important what Ivica Kostelic would say and I
believe that he managed to explain in his statement what some people
had misunderstood," Truskaller told the "Jutarnji List" of Sunday,
adding that the bank would remain one of the sponsors of the
national skiing team.
After "Nacional" weekly ran an interview with Kostelic, accusing
him of being a Nazi sympathiser, the Austrian press started
speculating that Hypo Alpe Adria Bank would stop cooperating with
the Croatian ski team.
"To discontinue our sponsorship is not a solution. Also, it is not
true that we made the resumption of cooperation conditional on
Ivica's apology. Hypo Alpe Adria Bank stands and will stand by the
Croatian ski team," Truskaller said.
He added Nazism was a very sensitive issue in Austria and that he had
been contacted by his head office in Austria to consider ways to
solve the problem.
Truskaller also criticised the writing of some Austrian reporters,
describing it as unfair and inflammatory.
