responsible, which would be a precedent. #L#
Benches of both the opposition and ruling coalition endorsed the
recommendation of the Committee for the Legislature and Judiciary
that the bill be send into the third reading. They described some
provisions as questionable and "tensile", even as an overkill of
commitments requested by the European Union.
Vladimir Seks of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) was concerned
with the fact that the bill lacked a list of criminal acts for which
a corporate body would be held accountable.
The bill stipulates criminal liability for companies under the
principle of established guilt of a responsible person who
committed the particular act.
The crime envisages fines from 5,000 to five million kuna (EUR1 =
7.5 kuna), and, exceptionally, closing down a company if founded
solely to commit criminal acts.
According to the government, the adoption of the draft law could
contribute to a more efficient suppression of grey economy, white-
collar crime and corruption.
