in all parts of the national armed forces is on a high level. #L#
Ante Markov told reporters on Tuesday that during the closed
session of the committee, a letter of "a high-ranking officer of the
Armed Forces" was read out, which under the label "military secret"
referred to the situation in the military.
Markov said the committee would check allegations from the letter
and added that according to information the committee possessed
"the security situation in all segments of the Armed Forces is on a
high level, and no speculations can bring into question the
security and preparedness of the Croatian Armed Forces."
He announced a visit of NATO's high delegation to Croatia for 4
February. The delegation should supervise the implementation of
reforms and see that the Croatian army was on a high level of
readiness, Markov said.
The committee has asked the President and Premier to immediately
appoint heads of the intelligence and counter-intelligent agencies
and the head of the office of the national security council. The
committee also urges the set-up of that council as the supreme body
in the system of national security.
The committee, Markov said, agrees on the establishment of the
council for the civil control over the work of security services,
and this would help Croatia's orientation toward building civil
society.
