ZAGREB, Jan 28 (Hina) - The average monthly costs of living of a four-member family in Croatia rose slightly over the past year. In January this year they totalled 5,228 kuna (EUR697), which is a 0.31 increase compared to the same
month last year, the Federation of Independent Croatian Unions reported.

The cost of food decreased by 2.9 percent and of clothing by 15.8
percent, but transport went up by 14 percent.
The union warns that, according to the State Bureau of Statistics,
the average monthly salary last November amounted to 3,766 kuna,
which was sufficient to cover 72 percent of living costs.
The common Croatian family still had to set aside 1,777 kuna for
food and 1,568 kuna for housing.
Education and culture cost 627 kuna, 522 kuna were needed for
clothing, 470 kuna for transport and 261 kuna for hygiene, the union
calculated.
Istria County was the most expensive in the country, with the
average four-member family needing 5,656 kuna monthly for living
costs. Vukovar-Srijem County was the cheapest, with 4,744 kuna.
Expenses in Zagreb were 5,581 kuna, in Rijeka they amounted to 5,352
kuna, in Dubrovnik 5,018 kuna, Osijek's families needed 5,009 kuna
and those in Split 4,959 kuna.
